Harlequin Ichthyosis, that’s the name of a rare skin disease with no cure. This condition causes the patient’s skin to become extremely fragile, often cracking, seeping pus, blistering, and bleeding. This is a genetic disorder, and the patient is forced to endure the symptoms for a lifetime!
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Meet Iman Lutfi. Lutfi has been suffering from Harlequin Ichthyosis since birth. When he was born, the doctor predicted that his lifespan would only be about 3 months. But thank God, Lutfi is a very strong fighter. Despite the pain and suffering he faces everyday, Lutfi continues to fight against the pain.
Lutfi’s skin is very fragile, often cracks, oozes pus, and blisters. His whole body peels and flakes. When it gets hot, his skin becomes red, watery, and painful!
His skin is also very prone to bleeding when rubbed against something or scratched. When bathing, his mother will spend 30 minutes to one hour removing all the dead skin that flakes off from his body.
Seeing the condition of Lutfi’s skin, it’s hard to imagine the pain he must endure. He has to go to school and face unpredictable temperatures.
When it’s too painful, Lutfi can only cry. Not only does he have to endure physical pain, sometimes Lutfi has to face teasing from other children his age and the harsh stares of people he meets.
Taking care of Lutfi’s skin is neither easy nor cheap. In a month, the cost of his treatment and skin care, which is increasing, reaches SGD300 per month.
He needs a lot of moisturizer, his clothes also need to be changed frequently, and he needs to sit in an air-conditioned area. Sometimes, Lutfi has to endure pain without medication and moisturizer because his parents cannot afford these necessities.
Moreover, Lutfi’s younger sibling also suffers from the same disease! Let’s together support Lutfi and his younger sibling. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a big difference in their lives.
