Through tears, Algren’s mom said, “Algren once stopped breathing. I was so scared of losing my only child. I keep praying and asking for an answer to my prayers.”

Algren used to be a cheerful boy who loved going to church and helped his mom wash dishes. Now, his body is so thin that you can see his ribs clearly. The boy who used to bring joy to the church community now lies weak on a thin mattress, unable to move his stiff body.

It all started a year ago when Algren suddenly fell after returning from Sunday school. Since then, he started falling often, and his whole body would become stiff and unable to move, especially his arms and legs. Over time, Algren lost the ability to chew and speak properly.

Church members often miss Algren, especially his Sunday school friends. “We miss hearing Algren leading us in prayer every day. His friends used to pick him up for church,” his mom said sadly.

To make things harder, Algren is a referral patient from outside Jayapura. His father, a farmer, had to stop working, and the family now struggles financially. They are staying at a relative’s house because they can’t afford treatment.
