Grandma Poniyem: A 73-Year-Old's Struggle for Survival
Fundraiser

Two months ago, Grandma Poniyem fell while selling her snacks, and her leg was crushed by her cart. Since she has no money for treatment, she could only apply herbal medicine on her wound. She is even afraid to visit a small clinic because she might not have enough money to pay for it.

“For food alone, I struggle a lot. If I run out of rice, I just fast and drink water. How can I afford treatment? I just can’t,” said Grandma Poniyem.

This 73-year-old grandma faces all these hardships alone. Her entire family has passed away, and the only person left with her is her adopted child, who suffers from a mental disorder.

Even so, Grandma Poniyem never gives up or abandons her child. She works hard from morning till evening, pushing her old cart to sell traditional sweet cakes called lupis.

Unfortunately, her business is not doing well. Even though her cakes are cheap, she only earns a tiny profit of less than a dollar per piece. On a good day, she makes around two dollars, just enough to buy rice and prepare the cakes for the next day.

Things get even harder during the rainy season. People don’t buy as much, and sometimes she returns home empty-handed.

Grandma Poniyem has no one else to rely on. Let’s help her so she can afford food and medical treatment. Any amount will mean the world to her.
