Villagers in Nanaan, Tinombo, Central Sulawesi, are forced to pray in a mosque that’s on the verge of collapse. They’ve been dreaming of replacing the roof and walls to make it safer and more suitable for worship.

Located in the middle of the jungle, this mosque has a half-wall made of bamboo, a roof made of coconut leaves that leaks during the rain, and a floor made of bamboo.

Despite the limited facilities, the villagers remain dedicated to their faith, coming to the mosque for daily prayers. After Maghrib prayers, children gather to learn the Quran.

Evenings at the mosque, which is 20 km from the sub-district capital with a steep road, are particularly challenging. Lighting is limited to solar panels, but the children remain enthusiastic about learning the Quran.

Driven by their faith, the villagers have been working together to build the mosque without any regular donors. They rely on their own contributions and have done everything from carrying building materials through difficult terrain to selling their belongings.

Unfortunately, their efforts have not been enough. The mosque is still in dire need of repairs.

Now, it’s our turn to help them complete their mission. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, small or large, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
