Twelve-year-old Yudha has faced more challenges than most adults. Abandoned by his mother and orphaned at a young age, he is now the sole caregiver for his ailing grandmother. To make ends meet, Yudha sells tempeh on the streets. His small earnings are barely enough to provide for both of them.

“If my dad were still here, I wouldn’t be so tired from working. I miss my dad,” he whispered.

The tears of this child tell the sorrowful story of his life. At just 12 years old, Yudha has become the breadwinner for his grandmother, Tioma (59), who has been falling ill.

He works to be able to eat and go to school. His father passed away when he was 3 years old, and his mother remarried, abandoning him. Now, he lives with his grandmother, who can no longer work due to her health.

To make ends meet, Yudha sells tempeh (fermented soybeans) for someone else. Riding his bicycle while wearing his school uniform, Yudha sells each piece of tempeh for 17 cents, earning 4 cents for each piece that sells.

“On a good day, I make 40 to 80 cents, and that’s what I use to buy rice,” he shares, recounting how there were times when he went without food for two days because he had no tempeh to sell. Luckily, kind neighbors helped by giving them food.

Yudha is about to enter junior high school, but he shares that he has no money to pay for the school registration. On top of that, his shoes and uniform are already torn, and he needs to buy new ones.

“I don’t want to drop out of school, but my earnings aren’t enough to pay for registration. I just want to make my grandma happy,” says Yudha with hope.

Yudha is hoping for financial assistance to live a decent life and continue his education. #GoodPeople, let’s help Yudha!
