A nightmare has become reality for Mr. Joko and Mrs. Santi. This husband and wife are standing on the edge of a cliff, where one wrong step could cost their child’s life.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Jonathan’s health problems began when he was just 11 months old, right after the family returned from Kalimantan. At that time, Jonathan, not yet able to speak fluently, could only cry whenever he urinated. Day by day, the pain worsened, and soon his genital area began to swell.
Frightened and panicked, Jonathan’s parents rushed him to the nearest community health center, where doctors initially diagnosed him with a hernia.
“For some reason, I wasn’t reassured by the doctor’s diagnosis. I felt something was still wrong with my son. So, we took him to the regional hospital, and eventually, he was referred to a larger hospital for further tests,” Mrs. Santi explained with tears in her eyes.
“I only had 30 cents with me. None of our neighbors were willing to help us…,” she added, her voice trembling.
After undergoing further tests, the doctors discovered that Jonathan was suffering from a complex condition. The pain in his abdomen was causing dysfunction in multiple organs, including his kidneys, pancreas, intestines, liver, and gallbladder.
Jonathan cries constantly, unable to endure the growing pain and swelling in his genital area. Doctors recommended immediate surgery, but only chemotherapy has been performed so far.
Mr. Joko, who used to work as a construction laborer, has had to stop working to care for Jonathan. To cover initial treatment costs, Mr. Joko sold their only motorcycle, which he used for work.
Unfortunately, while they have government health insurance, it doesn’t cover everything. Transportation costs from their village to the city, diapers, uncovered medications, and other expenses must all be paid out of pocket.
