On a cold night, two young boys were seen selling coffee around the neighborhood, hoping for customers to buy their goods. Meet Restu (14) and his younger brother Aidil (11).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! These two orphans have been struggling to survive ever since their father passed away 5 years ago due to lung disease and diabetes. Now, their mother is also ill, unable to do heavy work or be physically active. To help their mother earn a living, Restu and Aidil sell coffee every day after school.
They usually start selling at 5 p.m. and walk about 5 km around Medan Harbor until 9 p.m. Restu sells one cup of coffee for less than a dollar.
However, despite working late into the night, their sales are often low. There are even cases where customers take their coffee but refuse to pay. Most days, they don’t even earn 5 dollars, which they then give to their mother to buy food and prepare for the next day’s sales.
Their mother’s condition prevents her from lifting heavy loads. When her illness worsens, she is unable to work at all. She earns a small income as a laundry worker in the neighborhood.
Because of this, Restu and Aidil step in to help earn money for food and school fees. Often, they have to endure hunger, and when they do have food, they only eat instant noodles.
Restu is currently in the 8th grade, while Aidil is in the 6th grade. Every month, Restu needs to pay the school fees.
But due to their financial situation, their school fees are often overdue, even though Restu is an outstanding student. Last year, he competed in a provincial science olympiad and won third place.
It’s heartbreaking to see these kids fighting so hard at such a young age. Right now, they are on the verge of dropping out of school because of financial difficulties.
#KindSouls, would you help Restu and Aidil live a decent life and continue their education?
