This little boy is Azka, only 5 years old. He’s still in kindergarten!

At such a young age, Azka already has to fight for his survival. His mother passed away, and his father chose to leave him without a word.

Now, Azka lives with his elderly, sick grandmother. Since his grandmother is too frail to work, Azka is the one who has to struggle daily to buy rice or food and to get his grandmother’s medicine by selling popsicles.

Azka usually starts his rounds around 12 PM, after kindergarten, and continues until late afternoon before Maghrib. The popsicles he sells are made by his grandmother and are priced at only 10 cents each. Despite walking nearly 10 kilometers a day, Azka can only sell about 5 popsicles and earn 50 cents a day.

Azka’s grandmother was once a dishwashing helper for their neighbors but is now in poor health, having undergone surgery for a stomach issue.

Every day, Azka helps care for his grandmother and makes sure she eats. Often, Azka goes hungry because the money he earns isn’t enough to buy even a small portion of rice or food.

“I miss my mom… If she were still here, maybe I wouldn’t have to work like this. I wish I could play with my friends. But if I don’t work, Grandma will suffer…”

Azka and his grandmother live in a rented house, but with their difficult financial situation, Azka may not be able to continue school or even be forced out of their rental home for not being able to pay the rent.
