The faint sound of “whimpering” could be heard from under the bushes as the heavy rain began to subside. Ni Luh’s heart sank with worry. “Could there be puppies left out in the rain?”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! Her instincts were right. Tiny puppies were shivering in the cold, their little bellies visibly empty—proof they hadn’t eaten. There was no way Ni Luh could leave them like that.
With leftover scraps from the chicken and cow barn where she works, she hurriedly placed a mix of unsuitable food in a small, simple bowl.
“I had no choice but to feed them stale bread, rice, and leftover fish all mixed together,” Ni Luh shared.
Yet, the puppies didn’t seem to care. They devoured the food without hesitation.
Now, there are over 100—nearly 200—dogs staying temporarily in the livestock barn. But Ni Luh is merely a caretaker working for a local farmer. There’s no proper space or shelter for the dogs to live in.
“I had to ask the owner’s permission to bring these dogs here. At least they have a place to return to, even though when it rains, they’re still exposed because we don’t have a proper shelter,” she explained.
Ni Luh dreams of building a proper shelter for the nearly 200 abandoned dogs she has taken in. She also hopes to provide them with proper dog food, so they no longer have to eat stale bread and leftovers.
For the sick and injured dogs, Ni Luh can’t even afford a veterinarian to treat them. Your support can make a difference.
