Even though his body is hunched due to a stroke, Grandpa Maman continues to sell posters every day so his wife doesn’t go hungry.

“Who would want to buy these kinds of posters these days, dear? They’ve been replaced by expensive smartphones. It’s been a week, and none of my posters have sold. And yesterday, it rained. The posters got wet and can’t be sold anymore,” said Grandpa Maman.

Grandpa Maman (70) is an elderly street vendor who struggles to make a living. Despite his old age, Grandpa still walks miles daily, painstakingly offering posters of animals and math exercises, which are becoming increasingly unpopular.

With his body hunched from a stroke, Grandpa walks the streets, offering his posters to everyone he meets. All his hard work and sacrifices are for one purpose: to ensure his wife doesn’t go hungry at home.

Grandpa sells posters from morning until evening, starting when children go to school and finishing when they return home. Unfortunately, his posters rarely sell. In fact, for the past week, he hasn’t sold a single one.

The rainy season only makes things worse for Grandpa. With his difficulty walking, he often gets soaked because he can’t find shelter in time. His posters also get wet, making them unsellable.

“The saddest thing is when it rains heavily. In my condition, I can’t walk or run quickly. I just have to accept getting drenched. The wet posters can’t be sold anymore, so I often give them to children I meet on the street,” said Grandpa Maman.

On a good day, Grandpa’s daily earnings are at most $1—if he manages to sell his posters. But most of that money goes toward buying new posters to sell the next day.

Often, Grandpa and his wife have to eat plain rice without any side dishes. There have even been times when Grandpa couldn’t afford to buy rice at all, leaving them to go hungry for days.

Despite his incredible hardships, Grandpa never gives up or loses hope. He is grateful for the opportunity to keep trying, even in his current state. He also continues to share what little he has.

“When my posters don’t sell, I give them to children I meet on my way home. Even though it’s not much, at least they’re happy. I hope it can be useful for them,” he said.

#KindSouls, seeing Grandpa Maman’s heartbreaking situation, would you consider helping him? Together, we can support Grandpa to live more comfortably in his old age.
