At Just 11, Prasetyo Sells Fried Snacks to Keep His Family Alive

Dwiki Madani Prasetyo, commonly called Prasetyo, is an orphan fighting for his family.

At the age of just 11, Prasetyo has become the backbone of his family. After losing his father a year ago, Prasetyo now takes responsibility for providing for his family’s daily needs. Every day, after school, Prasetyo sells fried snacks around the neighborhood.

Every day, from 1 PM until 4 PM, Prasetyo brings 30 to 50 pieces of fried snacks from his neighbor to sell. Each piece is priced at 2 cents, and he sells them for 4 cents each.

If he manages to sell all of them, Prasetyo earns between 50 to 80 cents. However, not every day does he sell everything, and some days he only brings home 25 cents.

Prasetyo’s family consists of his mother and two younger siblings, Ayra (2 years old) and Ghufran (7 months old). Ayra suffers from a digestive disorder that causes her stomach to swell.

Before their father passed away, Ayra was frequently taken to the hospital. However, after their father passed from dry diabetes, Ayra no longer received proper medical care due to financial constraints.

Prasetyo’s mother, who used to make fried snacks to sell, is now fully responsible for taking care of her two young children. “We’re lucky just to be alive, sir,” said Prasetyo’s mother. They often go hungry because they don’t have enough money to buy rice.

Prasetyo often doesn’t take pocket money to school because he gives his money to his mother. Sometimes, he gets food from kind people around him, but it’s not something he can rely on every day.

Prasetyo and his mother hope to gather enough funds to open a small shop so she can take care of her children while selling. They also hope for Ayra’s illness to be treated soon, and if they have enough income, they wish to take her to the hospital. They had once rented a shop, but after their father passed away, they could no longer afford it.
