Jakarta’s rainy season brings nothing but hardship for Mr. Taufik, an online motorcycle taxi driver from Warung Mangga, Tangerang.

With no proper vehicle, he rides 60 km back and forth to the hospital, carrying his beloved son, Zavier. His heart shattered the day doctors diagnosed Zavier with Biliary Atresia, a rare bile duct disease.

Now, he must find a liver transplant and raise thousands of dollars for the surgery—an impossible sum, even if he worked 24 hours a day.

Zavier was born healthy, or so they thought. But within days, his skin turned yellow. Following common advice, Mr. Taufik bathed him in morning sunlight, hoping it would fade. But the jaundice worsened, his weight stalled, and his belly swelled. Fearing the worst, Mr. Taufik took him to a midwife, who referred them to two major hospitals—none could help.

Doctors confirmed his worst fear: Zavier’s liver was failing. The only way to save him was a transplant, but the cost was overwhelming. Health insurance barely covered the basics, and despite Mr. Taufik’s tireless efforts, he couldn’t do it alone.
