“The only sales I can do to survive is this, that’s all, while sitting down because I can no longer stand for long.” – Agus

While others his age are able to enjoy their golden years peacefully with their families, the opposite is true for Agus (59 years old). A 1995 accident left Agus paralyzed from the waist down. He tried to seek treatment but had to stop halfway due to financial issues.

He can only try to accept his condition and hope for a miracle from God for the healing of his legs. But the trials didn’t stop there. His wife passed away due to a heart attack. Now, Agus lives alone in loneliness. Only his walking stick remains as his loyal companion every day.

Agus sells snacks to make ends meet. His paralyzed legs make it difficult for him to stand for long and carry out various activities. But he has no other choice—his income from selling snacks is what keeps him going, even though it only amounts to no more than 5 dollars a day.

“It’s very quiet now. Sometimes, there’s not even one person coming for a massage in a week, or none at all. We even have to rely on our neighbors for food.” — Akong Yusak

This touching story comes from a blind couple who struggle to make a living offering massage services. Every day, Akong Yusak and his wife walk at least 5 kilometers.

In the past, the income from their massage work was enough to meet their needs, but as they age, their income has decreased. Their energy is also diminishing, and there are more massage services available nowadays.

Now, their income rarely exceeds 5 dollars, which is not enough to cover their daily needs. Sometimes, Akong is willing to accept whatever people pay for the massage because he has no other choice.

In these difficult circumstances, Akong often leaves home wearing a massage service sign around his neck. He walks alongside his wife, going down roads and alleyways, hoping for a little money.

They are often turned away or even chased off. When that happens, Akong and his wife sit on the roadside, hoping someone will hire their service. Frequently, half of their journey is spent massaging their own feet to relieve the exhaustion.

Support them now! Help Agus and Akong Yusak continue their journey with a small donation. Every contribution counts in making their days a little brighter.
