Every step Syamsiyah takes is filled with struggle. Born with physical disabilities—her hands and feet bent out of shape—she cannot walk like others. Instead, she drags her feet forward, enduring the pain of wounds that never truly heal. Yet, she never complains. “When my feet hurt, I just blow on them to ease the pain, then keep walking,” she says, determined to push through the hardship.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! For Syamsiyah, life has never been easy. Ten years ago, she lost her father, and since then, she has shouldered the responsibility of caring for her elderly mother, who is weak and sickly. With no one else to rely on, she roams the streets every day, selling fried snacks to earn a small income. Barefoot and exposed to the harsh weather, she walks over 10 kilometers from morning until evening, hoping to sell enough to buy food for herself and her mother.
However, selling is not always easy. More often than not, her snacks remain unsold, and instead of kindness, she receives cruel words and rejection. Some people mock her, while others tell her to leave. “Sometimes, I feel so sad when people insult me,” she admits. “I ask myself why I wasn’t born normal like everyone else. But this is my fate, and I have to accept it and keep going.”
Despite the hardships, Syamsiyah refuses to beg. She believes in working for her sustenance, no matter how difficult it may be. At the end of the day, all she prays for is to return home safely and have a proper meal with her mother. But many nights, when sales are bad, they must settle for nothing more than rice and crackers.
Even with all the obstacles in her path, Syamsiyah continues to move forward—because giving up is never an option. Your kindness can help lighten Syamsiyah’s burden. Let’s support her journey by giving her the chance for a better life.
