Natan, 37, is the founder of Hikari Cats Shelter, a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, and disabled cats. His journey began in 2020 after rescuing a pregnant cat that had been scalded with hot water. Witnessing the suffering of stray cats firsthand, he made it his mission to care for them.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Starting with just 10–15 cats, Hikari Cats Shelter now houses over 100 cats in a small 3×4 meter rented room, where Natan lives with his wife. The shelter is severely overcrowded, with many cats suffering from injuries, blindness, or missing limbs. The lack of space and poor ventilation make it easy for diseases to spread, creating an unhealthy environment.
Despite high expenses for food, medical care, and rent ($1,150 per year), Natan never turns away a cat in need. He funds the shelter through cat-related services like grooming, pet boarding, and food delivery, sometimes even working as an online driver. Currently, he has $1,000 in unpaid veterinary bills, with some treatments costing up to $450 per cat.
His biggest dream is to provide a larger, safer space for these cats. His only fear is what will happen to them if he and his wife are no longer around.
Despite financial struggles—sometimes surviving on instant noodles shared with his wife and cats—Natan remains committed to his mission, believing that provision is always there for those who help others.
Now, Hikari Cats Shelter urgently needs support to secure a bigger, healthier space where these rescued cats can live safely. Will you help Natan continue his mission?
