“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
(Matthew 25:35)
Seen as a burden, a disgrace, and victims of bullying, the autistic children at Anugerah Christian Disability Shelter often face harsh judgment.
For the past 11 years, Mother Martince has dedicated her life to serving God by caring for children with special needs at the shelter. It hasn’t been easy—she even took an extreme step by pawning her Civil Servant Decree to build a Special Education School for them.
16 abandoned autistic children are being cared for at the shelter. Many were discarded and neglected by their parents. Some were left in the shelter’s care and never visited again. They have never known the warmth of a loving family…
The shelter has only two rooms—one for boys and one for girls. The children sleep cramped together, as there is no extra space or proper bedrooms for them to rest.
The building itself is a converted classroom from the Special Education School, repurposed into a home. With 16 children, the space is extremely small, making it even more challenging for those with special needs.
With irregular donations, the shelter struggles to keep running. Meals are often simple, consisting of rice and vegetables. The small, cramped space is also a growing concern. Some of the children are now teenagers and need proper rooms to sleep in.
