Efata Foundation is a sanctuary for elderly individuals suffering from mental illness who have been abandoned and have no family to care for them. Located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the foundation provides a safe haven for those who have nowhere else to go.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Founded in 2011 by Pak Adi and his team, Efata originally began as a movement to help women suffering from depression. Over the years, it evolved into a place of refuge for the elderly with mental illness, many of whom were found living on the streets with no identity or support system. These individuals, often in severe physical and mental distress, are treated not as patients but as members of the Efata family, referred to as “students” to promote dignity and respect.
The foundation is currently facing a major crisis. The building that houses the elderly residents is overcrowded, dilapidated, and unsafe. The landlord has given notice to vacate the premises, and the foundation has nowhere else to go. Despite the ongoing challenges, the team at Efata continues to care for these individuals with compassion and dedication, providing them with daily care, food, and emotional support.
But the foundation’s resources are limited. The building is falling apart, with leaky roofs, cracked walls, and inadequate facilities. The elderly residents, many of whom are in poor physical and mental condition, need a stable, safe environment to heal and rebuild their lives.
Efata Foundation urgently needs support to provide a new, safer place for the elderly individuals under its care. The foundation’s goal is to continue offering these abandoned souls the care and dignity they deserve, ensuring they have a chance at a better life in a safe and supportive environment.
