Keenan's Tragic Diagnosis: A Rare Brain Tumor Threatening His Life and Future
Fundraiser
Dini Sholatri is Keenan's mother

Three-year-old Darel Keenan Anandi is battling a rare and life-altering brain tumor—Hamartoma Hypothalamus. This non-cancerous tumor is located deep within his brain, dangerously close to vital nerves and his brain stem. His condition is so rare that only 1 in 200,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with it. It causes him to suffer from “gelastic seizures”—episodes that appear like laughter but are actually uncontrollable seizures—up to 7–8 times a day. Keenan also struggles with excessive hunger and hyperactivity, as the tumor interferes with the part of his brain that regulates growth and appetite.

Since his diagnosis, Keenan’s parents have sacrificed everything. They left their home in Sumbawa, NTB, and moved to Denpasar, Bali, to stay near the hospital. His father, once a printing worker, is now unemployed, and his mother cares for Keenan full-time. They’ve sold their motorbike and taken out bank loans to cover medical costs. So far, Keenan has undergone a 10-hour brain surgery to remove part of the tumor, but doctors couldn’t remove all of it. He now needs a second surgery in Jakarta, which is not covered by insurance.

Keenan is their only child—and the only grandchild in the family. Despite everything, he remains cheerful, strong, and full of life. His laughter lights up the room, even though it sometimes hides his pain. His parents’ only wish is for him to grow up healthy and have a chance at a normal childhood. But they can’t do it alone. With your support, Keenan can continue his treatment, get the surgery he needs, and fight for a brighter future.
