Meet Ikar, often called Ucok Baba, a 10-year-old boy who dreams of going back to school but struggles due to financial difficulties. Ikar became an orphan at a very young age when his father passed away. His mother left to work in Ternate when Ikar was just 4 years old, and he hasn’t heard from her since. Unable to afford school fees, Ikar had to stop attending school after second grade. Now, he works hard every day, selling dishwashing soap at the entrance of a market in an effort to return to school and support his grandmother, Kinang, a 60-year-old woman with limited, uncertain income and health issues.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Ikar and his grandmother are living in a difficult financial situation. They are struggling to pay the rent for their home, which costs $20 per month, and they can barely afford food, let alone the bills for electricity and water. Despite these hardships, Ikar is determined to continue his education. Every day, he wakes up early to perform the Dhuha prayer, prepares his goods, and heads to the market to sell soap. He buys soap for $0.22 per pack and sells it for $0.33, hoping to earn a small profit of $0.33 to $0.66 a day. However, sales are often slow, and he struggles to make enough money to pay for his schooling and his daily needs.
Ikar’s urgent needs include funds to pay his overdue rent, return to school, buy soap for resale, and save for his future. He also needs a bicycle to avoid paying for daily transportation to the market, and money for food and utility bills.
Through all these challenges, Ikar holds onto hope. He dreams of reuniting with his mother and continuing his studies, and his determination to overcome his circumstances is nothing short of inspiring.
#KindSouls, let’s help Ikar fulfill his dreams. Your support will help him return to school, pay for his daily needs, and work towards a brighter future.
