Imagine being 12 years old and already having to leave your family, migrate alone to the city, and find work, just because your island doesn’t have a junior high school.

This is the heartbreaking reality for the children of Boleng Island, a remote village on the edge of Komodo National Park, East Nusa Tenggara. In a place where 60% of students drop out after elementary school, education becomes a privilege, not a right.

We acknowledged Boleng Island as one of the “3T Island” in Indonesia; Tertinggal (Disadvantage), Terdepan (Frontier), Terluar (outermost).

Why Boleng Island?

To reach Pulau Boleng, one must endure a journey of one hour by car and 20 minutes by boat. But the children here brave more than the route; they brave a collapsing wall, flooding classrooms during a rainy season, and teachers struggling to conduct lessons in spaces that are barely standing.

We also discovered several challenges faced by local teachers, families, and the broader community. These issues present an opportunity for us to work together in creating meaningful solutions and building a more sustainable and supportive ecosystem for everyone involved.

Creating Sustainable Ecosystem

With your help, we’re not just building the first-ever junior high school on Boleng Island. This is about creating a sustainable ecosystem within the island.

This campaign is proudly managed through a strategic partnership between Insan Bumi Mandiri (IBM), Kitabisa, Sekolah Indonesia Singapura, and IVECA . Our collaborative approach ensures complete transparency, professional project management, and measurable impact.
