“Arumi’s eye keeps getting bigger and now she can’t even close it. It breaks my heart to see her like this. I wish I could take her place. She’s so little, but suffers pain every single day,” said Mr. Sarman, describing his only daughter’s condition.

For over a year now, Arumi has been battling vascular cancer in her eye. Her father, a motorcycle taxi driver, was shocked and devastated when he learned about her illness. With his daily income barely enough for food, the cost of treatment seemed unimaginable.

“One time, I had to secretly take Arumi to the hospital on my motorbike. The doctor warned us not to because dust could harm her eye—but I had no other option.”

“Then, the motorbike broke down on the way. I had to push it while carrying Arumi, because I couldn’t afford a mechanic. She got exhausted, and I ended up resting with her in front of a minimarket—I felt so helpless.”

Often, Mr. Sarman has no choice but to take Arumi along while he works, because there’s no one else to watch her at home.

“The doctor said she needs urgent treatment because the tumor is growing uncontrollably. Arumi could lose her vision—or worse, her life. I’m terrified of losing her,” he said with tears in his eyes.
