Ghofur never imagined that a tooth infection would escalate into a jaw tumor, a massive growth that now blocks his mouth and even affects his breathing.

He can no longer breathe normally through his nose. Instead, he breathes through a tube inserted into his neck, which must be opened from time to time to clear phlegm buildup that can cause choking or coughing fits.

As the tumor keeps growing, his face has become severely disfigured, and he has completely lost the ability to speak. When he’s in pain, he can only moan, but there’s often no one around to help, as he lives all alone.

After both his parents passed away, the only asset he had left was the motorcycle he used to work as an ojol (motorcycle taxi driver). He pawned it to cover the costs of five surgeries. Now, nothing remains.

With no income and no family to rely on, Ghofur is occasionally cared for by sympathetic neighbors. But with no clear path to further treatment, he has resigned himself to whatever comes next, uncertain and in pain.
