Noveliya Septiani, fondly called Yaya, was once a bright young woman full of dreams. She graduated in 2020 and was set to begin her training after Eid 2021. But just two days before Eid, a tragic motorcycle accident changed everything.

Yaya suffered a severe head injury that caused brain bleeding, leaving her unconscious. She underwent emergency surgery and fell into a coma for a month. Her father, who was deeply shaken by the accident, passed away from a heart attack the very next day—leaving her mother, Reni Amra, to face this painful journey alone.

Today, after almost 4 years, Yaya remains bedridden, dependent on an NGT feeding tube and ongoing therapies. She can only respond by closing her eyes or crying. The long bedrest has also caused a painful 4cm bedsore on her hip.

Reni, now a single mother, struggles to care for Yaya and her elderly mother. She makes a living by handcrafting crochet bags, earning only about USD 100 per week—barely enough for daily needs, medicine, and therapy. Once, Yaya helped her sell the bags online, but now Reni must do everything herself while watching over her daughter day and night.

Despite the hardships, Reni holds on to hope. She believes Yaya can recover with proper treatment, just as others have defied medical odds before.
