The tragic accident that nearly took 58-year-old Grandma Martha’s life will never be forgotten. While riding on a motorbike, she was struck once, managed to stand, then was hit again by another motorcycle and dragged two meters.

Grandma Martha and her husband, 62-year-old Grandpa Markus, were rushed to the hospital, but her injuries were far worse. Her pelvic bone was shattered and her bladder torn, leaving her bedridden with an external metal brace that makes sitting nearly impossible.

“Before this we ran a small food stall in the village. Since the accident, we had to close it, so we’ve had no income since January 2025,” Grandpa Markus explains.

Martha still needs bi-monthly checkups at a hospital in Surabaya and is waiting for another surgery. Without consistent treatment, dangerous complications could occur. “Our savings from the stall are almost gone. Even with national health insurance, there are many extra medical costs we must pay ourselves,” Markus adds.
