A Single Egg for Two: Grandpa Endu Sells Old-Fashioned Toys to Fight Daily Hunger
Fundraiser
Sajiwa Foundation is a non government organization who help people in need.

A single egg has become a luxury for 75-year-old Grandpa Endu and his daughter. They can’t afford any other side dishes, so one egg must be shared between the two of them. Even then, father and daughter can only afford to eat once a day….

Grandpa Endu places his hopes on the toys he makes to sell. Every coin he earns means one thing — enough food to fill his stomach, so he can have the strength to work another day.

Even in his old age, Grandpa still works tirelessly just to survive. It’s exhausting to keep pushing himself when his body is already frail — but what choice does he have?

Every day, Grandpa forces himself to walk, even with the help of a cane. His legs can no longer move normally after a bad fall, and age has weakened his health even further.

Grandpa’s wife passed away long ago, and now he lives with his daughter, Aira, who works as a laundry woman and occasionally helps clean a nearby Islamic boarding school for a small wage.

Due to their financial struggles, Aira was forced to drop out of school. She knows that even though education is free, school supplies and daily expenses still cost money. She couldn’t bear to burden her father any further.

Grandpa’s income from selling toys can’t be relied on either. Each handmade toy sells for less than a dollar. But sadly, not many are interested in the toys made by this elderly man — people see them as outdated or old-fashioned.

On good days, if they’re lucky enough to earn a bit more, Grandpa and his daughter can afford a small meal and share an egg between them. But most of the time, they can only afford one meal a day—or go to sleep hungry.

Beyond the hunger, what breaks Grandpa’s heart the most is seeing his daughter drop out of school. He feels like a failure as a father, unable to give her the decent life she deserves.

If only he had more means, Grandpa would send Aira back to school. Yet Aira doesn’t want to sit idly by while her father struggles.

“I just wish I had some capital to start selling too, so Grandpa doesn’t have to work alone. Maybe one day, I can earn enough so he can finally rest…,” she said.

Grandpa Endu and Aira don’t ask for an easy life—they just want the strength to keep going. Dear #KindSouls, your help can ease the burden of this father and daughter, giving them hope for a better tomorrow.
