After Losing His Wife, Grandpa Mariyadi Battles Loneliness and Hunger on the Streets
Fundraiser
Sajiwa Foundation is a non government organization who help people in need.

At 85 years old, Grandpa Mariyadi has been living alone since his wife passed away. His stepchildren no longer care for him. Every day, he sells coffee from noon until late at night, earning barely enough to survive. For the past year, he’s been sleeping in front of a public toilet because he can’t afford rent. Despite his frail body and illness, Grandpa refuses to beg — he only hopes for a small capital, a decent stall, and a modest home to rest in during his final years.

Behind Grandpa Mariyadi’s weak and weary body lies a painful story of loneliness. Since losing his wife, he has had no one to talk to, no one to rely on. His stepchildren drifted away, leaving him to face his twilight years alone.

Now, Grandpa makes a living by selling coffee from 11 a.m. until late at night. His daily income barely reaches $3 — and it all goes toward food and the next day’s supplies. On quiet days, he can only afford a single meal of plain rice without any side dishes.

The most heartbreaking part — Grandpa has been sleeping in front of a public toilet for over a year. After falling behind on $50 in rent, he was evicted. Since then, his nights have been spent on a hard bench, wrapped in a thin blanket, with an old shirt as his pillow. Imagine, at his age, he doesn’t even have a private space to lay down and rest peacefully.

To make matters worse, his leg — injured from a childhood fall — has worsened over time. The pain often makes it hard for him to walk. He dreams of selling his coffee from place to place to earn more, but carrying heavy loads and walking long distances is now impossible. Still, he forces his aching legs to keep moving, because for him, surviving is the only choice he has.

In a trembling voice, he once said, “I’d be ashamed to beg… I’d rather sell whatever I can.”

He doesn’t ask for much — only to live independently, to not go hungry or sleep in the cold anymore.

#KindSouls, let’s help Grandpa Mariyadi live out his remaining days with dignity. Your support can bring hope and comfort to a man who has endured so much in silence and solitude.
