“For Erpan’s chemotherapy, I’ve already sold my motorcycle and our house, but the money still isn’t enough for surgery. Business has been slow… sometimes we even struggle just to eat,” said Mr. Edi, his voice trembling.
Erpan Saputra, 16, now lies weak and frail — his body reduced to skin and bones. Every attempt to swallow food causes him unbearable pain, as a malignant tumor has spread across his face and into both eyes.
It all began as a small lump on his nose. But despite undergoing medication and chemotherapy, the tumor continued to grow and spread. Now, both his eyes are swollen and often ooze tears mixed with pus.
The tumor even blocked his airway, forcing doctors to create a hole in his throat so he could breathe and eat through a tube. Since then, Erpan has lost his voice. Every night, he can only whimper in pain in his parents’ arms. A youth that should be filled with laughter has instead become a time of endless suffering.
Mr. Edi and Mrs. Siti have fought with everything they have. They’ve sold their motorcycle, gas cylinder, and even their home to pay for treatment. Their savings are gone, and now they survive only on the meager and uncertain income from Mr. Edi’s small business.
But their fight isn’t over. Doctors say Erpan still needs 30 chemotherapy cycles, but he’s only completed one so far. The family can’t even afford transportation to go to the hospital, additional medicine, or daily necessities.
#KindSouls, Erpan desperately needs our help to continue his fight against the aggressive tumor consuming his body.
