“I once almost died while selling traditional kuih (traditional cakes).”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Lauw Twan Hing, known as Akong Hing (72), cannot live without insulin injections after being diagnosed with chronic diabetes. Every day, Akong Hing has to inject insulin three times to keep up with her daily activities.
One day, Akong collapsed on the street after selling kuih from 3am to 4pm. At that time, Akong had not injected insulin in the morning, which caused her body to become weak and eventually collapsed. In his pain, Akong still struggles to make a living and tries to recover.
Every day, he traveled 15 kilometers selling kuih for 800 rupiah each. However, most of the time, Akong’s kuih remain unsold and had to be taken home in an unsellable condition, causing him to lose money because he had to throw them away.
“I make my own cakes to sell. I sell them by walking because I don’t have a vehicle,” said Akong.
His body may not be as strong as it used to be, but he can’t give up because he has to take care of his wife, 72-year-old Ama Lani, and pay for his medication, which requires insulin injections for the rest of his life.
In spite of their hardships, Akong Hing and Ama Lani still believe that God will not let them fall into suffering and trials. They have full hope in God’s blessings.
