For the past 7 years, Pak Yatno, 41, has been battling leprosy, a disease that continues to destroy his body. Since 2018, even though his skin was covered in wounds and his body grew weaker, he forced himself to work as a construction laborer to support his wife and two young children.

But in March 2024, his body finally gave in. Pak Yatno can now only lie down, too weak even to sit. His skin is covered in deep black wounds, and even a small scratch can cause the flesh to rot — some fingers have already been lost.

The leprosy bacteria have also spread to his lungs. He coughs continuously, struggles to breathe, and suffers constant fever and pain.

Meanwhile, his wife had to stop selling banana leaves to care for Pak Yatno and their children. Since then, the family has had no income at all. They survive only on the occasional kindness of neighbors — which is never guaranteed.

Only intensive and consistent medical treatment can save Pak Yatno now. But even basic home care items — adult diapers, cotton, IV fluids, wound care — are out of reach for his wife.
