Zildan is only 11 years old, yet his life has been shaped by a tragedy he was too young to remember. When he was a toddler, a fire broke out at the place where his mother was working. In a desperate attempt to save him, she held him tightly and ran through the flames. Her bravery saved his life, but she did not survive. The fire left Zildan with severe burns on his hands and feet, causing permanent deformities that make walking difficult. Even wearing a simple pair of sandals is painful and almost impossible.
He lives with his grandmother, who is his only caregiver. Their days are simple and challenging. Zildan helps her sell small homemade snacks in their neighbourhood. Some days, they earn barely $2 to $3 which must cover food and school needs. Despite his struggles, he keeps smiling while walking on his injured feet, carrying their goods from house to house.
At school, Zildan often feels different. His fingers and toes are misshapen and he walks slowly. He dreams of having hands and feet like other children and wishes he could run without pain. But above all, he dreams of becoming a teacher one day so he can inspire kindness in others.
Every afternoon, he visits his mother’s grave. He sits quietly, as if sharing the stories he cannot tell anyone else. His grandmother watches him grow with both pride and sorrow, wishing he could undergo surgery to ease his pain and help him move more freely.
#KindSouls, your support can help Zildan receive the surgery he needs, continue his education and meet his daily essentials. Together, we can help him walk toward a future filled with hope instead of pain.
