Five-year-old Farah Auliya was once an active, cheerful little girl who loved school, reading, and playing with her friends. But on 3 August 2023, a mild fever suddenly turned into a life-threatening emergency. Within hours, Farah began shivering uncontrollably, vomiting, and experiencing repeated seizures. She stopped responding, could only whisper “mama,” and was rushed from the clinic to the hospital as her condition deteriorated rapidly. Doctors had to intubate and sedate her before admitting her to the NICU, and later the PICU, where she fought for her life for weeks.
Doctors believe Farah was struck by Influenza A, which led to acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANEC)—a rare and severe brain condition with an extremely low recovery rate of just 1%. Her brain stem is swollen, her kidneys have been affected, and she is now fully bedridden. Farah cannot eat, speak, or move on her own. She survives on tube feeding, requires frequent suctioning to prevent choking, and depends entirely on her mother for round-the-clock care. Her once-bright energy has faded, replaced by silent suffering, with only small reflex movements showing that she is still aware.
Farah’s parents are trying their best to remain strong. Her father works as a factory clerk with a modest income, while her mother has become a full-time caregiver. With a younger child at home and extended family members who can no longer stay with them due to their own health issues, the family is emotionally and financially exhausted. They urgently need help to cover Farah’s medical consumables, feeding tubes, diapers, physiotherapy, suction equipment, recliner wheelchairs, and her monthly supply of nutritional milk.
Your kindness can ease a burden this young family cannot carry alone. Every contribution helps provide comfort, care, and dignity for little Farah as she continues her brave fight. #KindSouls, would you stand with Farah today?
