“That day, we just planned to work at the rubber plantation, which was 1.5 km from our village. I left first, not realizing that my wife was attacked by a bear. She called for help, but I didn’t hear her… Next thing I knew, her body was covered in wounds, and her face was unrecognizable.” – Pak Abdul.

The guilt still fills Mr. Abdul’s heart. If only he hadn’t left first, maybe he could have saved his wife. Maybe she wouldn’t have to bear the pain every second.

No one in Pasaman Barat had ever been attacked by a bear before. Mrs.  Abidah’s case was the first, and hopefully, the last. Unfortunately, she crossed paths with two bears who had just given birth, and when they were disturbed, they immediately attacked Mrs.  Abidah mercilessly.

The bears tore at her face, hands, and legs. The worst part was no one heard her screams. After the bears left, it was only when her brother-in-law found her that they saw she had collapsed, helpless, with her face completely unrecognizable.

As a result of the attack, Mrs.  Abidah lost her left eye, and her right hand had to be amputated because it couldn’t be saved. The surgery lasted 18 hours, and her forehead skin was used for reconstructing her nose. She has countless stitches on her face and body.

Now, Mrs.  Abidah still needs treatment to prevent infection in her wounds. Unfortunately, her husband has run out of money.

They’ve sold most of their belongings, and now he only earns from working at a motorcycle repair shop. He struggles to meet daily needs and pay for his children’s school fees, let alone afford his wife’s medical care.

#GoodPeople, the trials Mrs.  Abidah is facing are incredibly heavy. It’s a miracle that she’s still alive. Let’s come together and help ease her burden.
