Grandma Ngapinah Survives on Rainwater and Spoiled Food
“I’m just waiting for the rain to fall… so I can have some water to drink,” whispered Grandma Ngapinah (72) as she sat weakly in front of her old wooden house deep in the forest.
It has been 10 years since her husband passed away, and Grandma Ngapinah has been living completely alone ever since. In her old age, she stays in a dilapidated house located in the hilly area, where clean water is extremely difficult to access.
For the past 11 days, Grandma Ngapinah has been sick. She can only lie on a thin mat, too weak to move, without any medical care. She does not even know what illness she has, as she has never been able to visit a clinic or health center.
Even daily meals are uncertain. She survives on food given by nearby villagers, often keeping leftovers until they spoil just so she can eat the next day. For drinking water, she relies solely on rainwater collected whenever it falls.
Grandma Ngapinah faces her days in weakness, hunger, pain, and loneliness. There is no family to care for her, no guarantee of food tomorrow, and no access to medical treatment.
Your kindness could help her receive proper care, food, and a safer place to live.
