“My husband is sick with cancer… we need money for his treatment,” said Grandma Parinah (72), an elderly woman who walks from house to house selling bundles of firewood she gathers from the forest.
Walking with a limp and staggering slightly, she pushes herself despite her own condition. It turns out her husband isn’t the only one who is ill — Grandma Parinah recently underwent surgery on her leg due to diabetes. She can only carry two small bundles of firewood to sell for 40 cents each.
Meanwhile, her husband, Grandpa Suparmo (85), is growing weaker every day. He has lost 15kg. He can barely swallow any food. His body now relies heavily on routine chemotherapy just to survive.
But the journey from their home to the hospital takes about 2.5 hours — and they have no vehicle. Grandma Parinah struggles to figure out how they can afford the transportation fare. They have no money. Even buying a single kilogram of rice is already beyond their reach.
Dear #KindPeople, let us extend our help to Grandpa Suparmo and Grandma Parinah so he can continue his chemotherapy and both of them can live with dignity in their old age.
