The story of a 107-year-old grandmother named Grandma Titi is truly heartbreaking. At an age when she should be resting and enjoying her twilight years, Grandma is still struggling just to afford a bite to eat.

Her frail body is forced to walk for kilometers under the scorching sun. She risks her life daily, nearly getting hit by passing vehicles, as she sells salted eggs and snacks on the streets.

While holding back her fatigue and hunger, Grandma patiently offers her eggs to passing drivers at the Sukamiskin traffic light in Bandung. But even after approaching dozens of vehicles, none stop to buy from her.

“Salted eggs, sir? Just 40 cents… freshly made this morning,” she says gently to each driver.

Every day, Grandma begins her journey at 7 a.m., taking public transport before setting up her small roadside stall. But when no one buys from her, she often doesn’t even have enough for the ride home.

Grandma has no family left. Selling eggs is her only means of survival. She earns around $1 to $2 per day—often barely enough to cover her transport costs. Many days, she endures hunger for lack of sales.

“I’ve nearly been hit by speeding cars many times… even though I stay on the roadside.”

Selling by the roadside is dangerous. Grandma’s aging body can’t move quickly enough to avoid passing vehicles. She’s had multiple close calls.

Despite the hardships, Grandma remains grateful. She never complains, instead feeling thankful to still be alive and able to work hard.
