Mama Memei had already lost two of her children before, so seeing her youngest, Ido, in critical condition is devastating for her.
Ido’s body is extremely thin, his ribs clearly visible. The veins in his stomach are bulging and enlarged abnormally. Doctors fear this swelling could be a sign of a dangerous abdominal tumor.
At his age, he weighs only 8 kg. His face is pale, his body weak, and the only sounds from his tiny lips are cries and labored breaths. An IV line never leaves his hand.
Ido suffers from severe malnutrition and five other life-threatening illnesses. Mama Memei can no longer stand seeing him in pain every single day.
Desperate, she brought Ido to Jayapura for intensive treatment, leaving her hometown in Asmat Regency behind — without relatives or acquaintances to help.
Her husband could not accompany them, as he must farm and care for their two other children. The journey from Asmat to Jayapura is very far and requires a large sum of money. Mama Memei even had to borrow just to afford medical costs.
