20 Years of Pain: Chaerul's Brain Damaged, Suffers Seizures and Vomiting, Can Only Crawl
Fundraiser
Gerbang Kebaikan Banten is a non government organization who help people in need.

Hamsilah (42) is a strong mother who sells snacks by the roadside while caring for her only son, Chaerul (21), who was diagnosed with hydrocephalus when he was just 3 months old.

For years, she has fought alone — playing the role of both mother and father. Her husband abandoned them long ago after learning about their son’s condition and never returned.

“My husband never came home again… maybe he’s married to another woman now. I’ve had to work and care for my son all by myself,” said Hamsilah softly.

Each morning before dawn, she bathes and feeds Chaerul before preparing her snacks to sell. When there’s an opportunity, she also works as a laundry helper. Every bit of money she earns goes toward keeping herself and her son alive.

“I always worry when I leave him alone at home. His condition is so fragile… but if I don’t work, how can we eat?” she said.

Chaerul can’t sit or stand. To move, he drags his body across the floor using his back. His head has become so heavy — weighing around 20 kilograms — that even lifting it is painful. For over 20 years, he’s endured vomiting, seizures, and shortness of breath.

His eyes bulge, his limbs are stiff and bent, and his development has been severely affected by the buildup of fluid in his brain. Communication is often difficult; sometimes he can’t even respond when spoken to.

“It breaks my heart to see my only child like this. He’s so heavy now I can hardly carry him. I’ve tried seeking help, but no one has responded,” said Hamsilah tearfully.

She’s exhausted, yet she never gives up. Even when her income barely covers food, she keeps fighting — working endlessly and praying for her son’s healing.

Despite her tireless spirit, poverty limits her ability to get proper treatment for Chaerul. She dreams of bringing him to the hospital — but even that feels out of reach.

Dear kind hearts, let’s join hands to help Hamsilah and her son. Your support can bring hope to this mother who refuses to give up, and help Chaerul get the treatment he desperately needs.
