The Story of Muhammad Iman: A Hope That Lies Bedridden

Muhammad Iman bin Salim, a 17-year-7-month-old teenager, is the precious child of his parents. Like all parents, they welcomed his birth with gratitude and hope, imagining a cheerful life ahead for their little boy. But at just four months old, everything changed.

Iman did not show the same progress as other babies. His neck was weak, and he could not hold objects. At that moment, his parents’ hearts were filled with unspeakable worry. Every tiny smile from him brought joy, but deep down, they knew something was wrong.

Years passed, yet Iman’s condition remained the same. His body was unresponsive, and he could only lie down. Hot weather became a serious challenge — his body heated up quickly, he often had fevers, and after every feeding, he would vomit. Unlike other teenagers, Iman never experienced freedom. Every need — from eating to bathing — had to be cared for completely by his parents.

The pain he endures is unimaginable. His waist and legs hurt whenever he is seated. Still, Iman can only express his suffering through his eyes, as he cannot speak like others.

As a mother, Madam Salinah often sheds tears in prayer, asking for strength to care for her beloved son. “I feel so sad because my son is not like other children,” she said with a trembling voice. Their efforts never ceased. At the age of seven, Iman was enrolled in Community-Based Rehabilitation for training until he turned 12. But now, training can only be done at home due to financial constraints.

The family’s situation is also very challenging. Madam Salinah’s husband, Mr. Salim, works as a security guard with a salary of only $400  a month. With four children aged 34, 28, 22, and 17, they struggle to cover daily needs — including disposable diapers, supplements, special milk, and a wheelchair that Iman requires.

“My husband has just retired and still hasn’t found another job. We really need help with groceries and to sustain our family’s livelihood,” Madam Salinah expressed painfully.

The story of Muhammad Iman is one of struggle that calls for attention. Extend your hand to this family, because no matter how small, your help can bring new light into their lives as they fight through darkness.
