Every day, Ms. Intan wakes up early in the morning — cooking, caring for her children, and rushing to the market to earn a living. As a single mother of three, life has never been easy. But over the past year, her struggles have grown heavier.
Her father, Yaakop, used to be able to stand and care for himself. After suffering a stroke, he is now completely bedridden. He needs assistance for even the smallest movements and sometimes struggles to recognise who he is. His nights are filled with pain, restlessness, and sleeplessness — and Ms. Intan is the one caring for him through it all.
Ms. Intan earns only RM600 to RM1,200 a month from her small business, which is nowhere near enough to cover her father’s growing medical needs:
- Monthly costs for diapers and special milk
- Physiotherapy, nerve medication, and special lotion to relieve pain
- A special chair and hoist so she doesn’t have to lift her father on her own
- Increasing transportation costs for hospital visits
The burden doesn’t stop there. Her eldest child suffers from severe eczema and is currently undergoing treatment for mental health issues. Ms. Intan used to manage everything on her own. But since her father became ill, she no longer has the time or energy she once did. Her child has been forced to become independent — but for how long?
Day after day, Ms. Intan holds back her tears. In moments alone, she cries quietly. She never asked for an easy life — only for a little space to breathe.
Despite everything, Ms. Intan has never given up. She continues to work tirelessly to keep her small business running so her family can survive. But she knows now that she cannot do everything alone.
She needs support to hire help and repair her business so she can generate a more stable income. With that, she could give better care to her aging father while ensuring her children are not neglected.
Perhaps today, Ms. Intan is still holding on — but how long can she endure? With support and compassion, her life could become more manageable. She could run her business more steadily, her father could receive more comfortable care, and her children could continue their education without the constant fear of hardship.
