Father Paralyzed by Rare Joint Condition, 13-Year-Old Son Becomes Sole Caregiver
Fundraiser

At the age of 59, Pak Ketut Karma should be spending his days in peace. But a small wound turned into a long, painful struggle.

It began when his leg was burned by a cigarette. The next day, his knee swelled as big as a coconut, spreading down his leg. The wound burst open and kept spreading, making his skin peel like a burn. Doctors diagnosed him with Diffuse Flexion Contracture—a serious condition that causes the joints, muscles, and skin to tighten, leaving his leg stiff and hard to move.

Since then, Pak Ketut has not been able to walk normally. He now spends his days sitting in silence, thinking about how drastically his life has changed.

Just three months ago, his wife passed away. Several of his children are married and live far away. Now, he only has his youngest son, a 13-year-old boy, living with him.

Every day, the boy wakes up early to take care of his father. He cooks, feeds the chickens, cleans the house, and even sells snacks to help cover their daily needs. He does all this patiently, even though he should only be focusing on studying and playing like other kids his age.

Pak Ketut often holds back tears watching his son’s struggle.

“I just want to get better, so I can work again. I feel sorry for my son… he’s still so young but has to take care of me,” he whispered with teary eyes.

Right now, Pak Ketut’s only wish is to recover. He wants to walk again, work again, and free his youngest son from the heavy burden he should never have to carry.

But the cost of treatment is far beyond their reach. Without help, recovery is impossible.

Dear kind hearts, let’s help Pak Ketut. With your sincere support, we can cover his medical care so he can stand and work again—while allowing his son to grow up without such heavy responsibilities.
