A Sister’s Love Can Be Just as Strong as a Parent’s. That’s the kind of love Meike has for her younger brother, Yedi, who has lived with autism since birth. With God’s grace, Meike willingly fights every day, working as a scavenger to care for Yedi, whose condition continues to worsen.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Meike has dedicated her entire life to looking after her brother Yedi, who was diagnosed with autism from birth. She faces this struggle alone. No one has stood beside her all these years.
To survive, Meike walks around daily collecting scrap to sell. But heartbreakingly, 1 kilogram of scrap only earns her 1,000 rupiah (about $0.06). At most, she makes around 30,000 rupiah per month.
“Sometimes I’m scared, what if I get too old and can’t work anymore? Who will take care of Yedi? For as long as I can, I will keep fighting so Yedi can live like everyone else…” Meike says softly.
With such little income, Meike has no choice but to stretch every rupiah to meet both her and Yedi’s needs. But no matter how frugal she is, surviving on 30,000 rupiah a month is nearly impossible.
Often, Meike has to go without food for days just so her brother can eat. She sacrifices everything to give Yedi a life as normal as possible.
Adding to her burden, Meike struggles to pay rent every month. She’s fallen behind many times simply because there isn’t enough money. Not long ago, they were nearly evicted from their tiny rented room.
“I’m scared we’ll be thrown out. This is all we have. It’s our only shelter. If we get evicted, I don’t know what will happen to us. I can’t imagine how heartbreaking it would be for Yedi…”
Despite the hardship, Meike refuses to give up. She believes that as long as she can work and pray, God will continue to answer her prayers. With God’s blessing, she has promised to care for her brother until the end of her life.
“Thank God, sometimes a pastor or a friend drops by to help us. It’s not every day, and we can’t depend on them forever. But we are truly grateful. We try to set aside a little at a time to survive for a few more days…”
“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:25)
Guys, as our Father in Heaven teaches us to love and help one another, would you be willing to support Meike so she can continue caring for Yedi despite all her hardships? Let’s walk beside them in their journey.
