At just 8 months old, baby Nahwa is already in a fight for her life. She’s been diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare and deadly condition that affects just 1 in every 15,000 babies. Her bile ducts are damaged, causing her stomach to swell dangerously and her entire body to turn yellow. Without an urgent liver transplant and long-term medical care, Nahwa may not survive.

She was born healthy, the second child of Mr. Kohan and his wife, and brought joy to their family. But just 2 days after birth, Nahwa’s skin turned yellow and her belly began to swell uncontrollably. She was rushed to a local hospital in Cirebon, where she underwent lab tests, phototherapy, and an abdominal ultrasound. Doctors quickly referred her to a larger hospital in Bandung for more advanced care.

There, her parents received the heartbreaking diagnosis: biliary atresia, a rare condition causing liver and bile duct failure. Doctors told them she needs a liver transplant urgently.

Her father, Mr. Kohan, lost his job and now works washing motorcycles just to be close and help care for Nahwa. Despite working nearly 24 hours a day, he still can’t earn enough — the surgery costs hundreds of millions of rupiah (tens of thousands in USD).
