At just 2 months old, baby Nida — the daughter of a poor farmer — had to have her head drilled open due to brain swelling caused by fluid buildup. Now, she urgently needs another surgery costing thousands of dollars to save her life.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!During her first month of life, Nida, couldn’t even be held by her parents. She had to stay in an incubator for intensive care. Doctors diagnosed her with hydrocephalus pneumonia, a severe brain swelling condition caused by excess fluid accumulation that continues to enlarge her head circumference.
Fearing the pressure from the fluid would damage her brain, doctors inserted a tube inside her skull at just 2 months old to drain the excess fluid.
But even after surgery, Nida’s head size didn’t return to normal, and her condition hasn’t improved. She still suffers from frequent fevers and sometimes loses consciousness. Her parents — small-scale farmers — are struggling to afford another hospital stay.
When Nida’s condition worsened, her father, Mr. Uman, used what little money they had left to travel dozens of kilometers by public transport to get her to the hospital. It was the only way to save a bit of money for her treatment.
“Our savings are gone. Even the wedding jewelry — the only valuable thing we had — has been sold. We have nothing left to pay for Nida’s hospital treatment,” said Mr. Uman.
Dear friends, Nida must undergo several more surgeries to control the fluid in her brain, preventing her head from swelling even larger. Let’s help little Nida continue her fight for life.
