“What will happen to him if I die? Who will take care of him?”
In 2020, Mrs. Vasudevy A/P Subramaniam’s life changed forever. Once a strong and independent woman, she began experiencing persistent abdominal pain. At first, she thought it was nothing serious, but when the pain became unbearable, she sought treatment at the hospital.
That was when her world came crashing down—the doctors diagnosed her with Stage 4 cancer in her abdomen.
Her husband had already passed away, and her children rarely visited. Her once-stable life was now in shambles. This illness didn’t just rob her of her health—it took her entire way of life. Mrs. Vasudevy lost her job and any source of income. On top of dealing with constant pain, she had to find a way to survive alone.
Her treatment was intense. She had to undergo major surgery—three of her abdominal organs were removed. After the operation, life was never the same. Each month, she endured painful chemotherapy that left her weak, but she had no choice but to push through.
What’s even more heartbreaking is that she carries this burden all by herself. Her married son has completely abandoned her and left her with another heavy responsibility—caring for her 9-year-old grandson. Despite being sick and frail, she must still ensure her grandson has food to eat and a roof over his head.
Every month is a battle for survival. Rent needs to be paid, meals must be prepared, and treatment must continue. But she doesn’t know how much longer she can keep going. With no income, no family support, and a body growing weaker by the day, all she can do now is pray for kind hearts willing to help.
In her suffering, Mrs. Vasudevy doesn’t ask for much. She just wants one thing—a chance to live, to care for her grandson, and not to feel alone in this painful struggle.
