That is the reality for Raginy Doraisamy today—a mother battling a damaged heart valve, diabetes, and liver issues that are slowly stealing her life away.
Sleep is no longer a time of rest for her. Raginy often wakes up gasping for air, her body weak, and blood not flowing properly to her heart. At times, she faints without warning. For a child, watching the mother who was once the backbone of the family become so helpless is a pain that words cannot express.
“I’m Hema, the youngest daughter of my mother, Raginy. Every day I live in fear, afraid to receive bad news from Melaka, where my mother lives. I work in Kuala Lumpur, earning just enough to support myself, but my mother needs more than that—she needs urgent medical treatment.”
With no insurance or medical aid, Raginy relies on hospital care, but the costs are far too high for her to afford. Her heart disease and diabetes are deeply intertwined, leaving her unable to be independent. She can no longer walk far, cook, or carry out her daily life as she once did.
As the youngest daughter, Hema bears the heavy burden of caring for her mother, while her siblings live far away from Kuala Lumpur. She wants to help, but with her job and responsibilities, she can’t do it alone.
