Giving Up Everything to Care for a Brother with a Stroke

Tears streamed down Kak Leela’s face as she looked at her brother, Rajadurai A/L Viswanathan, lying still on his bed. Once a cheerful and hardworking young man, Rajadurai’s life changed in an instant when he had an accident in his twenties that left him in a coma for three years.

Their parents cared for him during that time, but now both have passed away, leaving the full responsibility to Kak Leela — who sacrificed everything to care for her beloved brother.

After emerging from the coma, Rajadurai lost vision in his right eye and became bedridden. As if that wasn’t enough, 3.6 years ago, he suffered a minor stroke in his throat, affecting his left hand and leg. Since then, he has struggled with movement, speech, and basic self-care.

Every day, Kak Leela tends to him with love and dedication — bathing him, feeding him, changing diapers, trimming his hair and beard, and ensuring he is clean and comfortable. Six years ago, she gave up her job entirely to care for him full-time, making the burden even heavier.

Rajadurai often has difficulty swallowing food or even drinking water, frequently urinates, struggles to sleep, and sometimes cries out unexpectedly from discomfort. His freedom is gone, and his life depends entirely on his sister by his side.

He requires regular physiotherapy to improve mobility, but the costs of treatment and medical equipment are far beyond what the family can manage. Their urgent needs include:

  • Regular physiotherapy and follow-ups
  • A wheelchair to help with mobility
  • A special mattress and mattress protectors to prevent bedsores
  • Daily diapers and hygiene supplies
  • Repairs to the back door of the house for safety
  • Daily food and groceries

With only Kak Leela’s husband working for a monthly salary of RM1,500, it is extremely difficult for the family to cover all these needs, especially with Kak Leela’s children still in school.

Every contribution not only helps Rajadurai but also gives Kak Leela the strength and hope to keep caring for her beloved brother.

Kind-hearted donors, let’s not let them face this struggle alone. Let’s help lighten the burden for Rajadurai and his sister.
