“Dad, it hurts… Please stop, Dad… Reyhan can’t take it anymore…” he cries in pain.

Every time his mother or father carries him to clean the wound on his buttocks, Reyhan—who lives in Bandar Lampung—screams and winces in unbearable pain. His whole body aches with even the slightest movement.

The disease is eating away at Reyhan mercilessly. He had to stop going to school in Grade 3, and now his body is reduced to skin and bones.

Because he’s been bedridden for over a year and unable to move, Reyhan’s condition has worsened. His buttocks are rotting (decubitus ulcers)—with open, wet wounds that must be cleaned constantly.

Doctors say Reyhan needs to be referred to a hospital in Jakarta that has more advanced medical equipment. But his father is just a construction laborer with an unstable income.

At most, he earns about $5 a day—and that’s barely enough for food, let alone sterile gauze, saline, and underpads for Reyhan.
