At just 10 years old, Safia has already endured what no child ever should.

Once a bright and playful little girl, her life changed forever after a tragic accident when she was only five. During a family vacation meant to celebrate her sister’s birthday, Safia accidentally fell into an adult swimming pool and nearly drowned.

She was rushed to the hospital and spent almost two months in a coma. Though she survived, the incident left her with severe brain injury — she is now completely bedridden, unable to move or speak like other children. Safia depends entirely on her mother for everything: eating, bathing, and daily care.

Her mother, Nurazila, has been her full-time caregiver ever since. What makes it even harder is that she’s doing it all alone. Nurazila lost her husband — the family’s breadwinner and emotional anchor — on 30 May 2022.

Since then, she has had to carry the weight of being both a mother and a father to her two daughters.

Her eldest daughter, deeply attached to her late father, struggled to cope with the loss. Behind her brave face, she suffered in silence. Nurazila only learned the extent of her daughter’s pain after finding a diary entry where the girl had written about wanting to end her life.

Despite all these heartbreaks, Nurazila continues to fight for her children — one who battles emotional trauma, and another who fights to simply survive.

Today, she works hard to provide for her family while caring for Safia round the clock. It’s a constant struggle — physically, emotionally, and financially — but she never gives up.

All she hopes for is a better life for her daughters: a future where Safia can receive proper therapy and care, and her sister can continue healing from her pain.
