She didn’t want this baby—so she tried to end his life. Desperate to get rid of the baby growing inside her, Sun’s mother went to a traditional healer.

She let them step on her stomach, hoping to end her pregnancy. But fate had other plans. Sun was born alive. The newborn cried, unaware that he would grow up in pain, trapped in a body that wouldn’t function like everyone else’s.

His growth was not normal. His arms and legs became stiff and twisted. Sun couldn’t even speak. And for 23 years, the only person who cared for him was not his mother, but Omah Nyoh, a 64-year-old woman who is now at her breaking point.

“I sold my car, sold everything, just to pay for his therapy. But now, I have nothing left,” Omah said. Sun’s mother left to work abroad, promising to send money every month. But that promise was a lie. Omah was left alone to raise him, struggling every day just to keep them both alive.

To survive, she takes whatever jobs she can find—washing clothes, ironing, even working on construction sites. On most days, she collects scrap metal, going around the streets looking for anything she can sell for a few cents per kilo.

“I can’t rely on other jobs because the work isn’t steady,” she explained. But the truth is, Omah is not even Sun’s biological grandmother. She has no obligation to care for him. Yet, when his own mother abandoned him, she couldn’t bear to do the same.

Sun needs therapy. He needs soft food, diapers, and medical care. But Omah struggles to afford even the basics with what little she earns. “For 23 years, this child has survived on whatever little I can provide. What more can I do? I just pray that God will help us,” she said.

#KindSouls, let’s help Sun and ease Omah’s burden. She is old, and she fears that when her time comes, there will be no one left to take care of him.
