Syahrul Syah Indera is an 8-year-old boy who has been facing serious health challenges since birth.

As a baby, he experienced seizures whenever he had a fever. The lack of oxygen during those episodes affected his brain development. Until today, Indera is fully bedridden. He cannot sit, cannot walk, and relies entirely on milk through a feeding tube for his daily nutrition.

Much of Indera’s life has been spent in and out of hospitals. Almost every month, he needs to be admitted due to his declining condition. Whenever this happens, his father has to stop working temporarily to stay with him in the ward.

Indera’s father is a fisherman with an unstable income. Some days, he returns with a catch. Other days, he comes home empty-handed. On top of their son’s medical needs, the family is struggling with increasing debts — including a RM300 monthly house rental and overdue electricity and water bills.

They only own a small motorcycle, making each hospital visit difficult. Indera’s mother cannot work because she cares for him full-time at home. The entire financial burden falls on the father alone.

Every day, the family worries about Indera’s diapers, his specialised milk, and the debts that continue to grow. As parents, they often feel lost, unsure how to continue providing for their son.

Despite all the challenges, Indera remains their light — a precious gift they continue to love and care for with all their hearts.
